Existing grants are now increased by 25%!

As part of the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program grants have been increased by 25% to help an estimated 200,000 more homeowners cover the cost of making energy-efficiency retrofits to their homes. The expanded time-limited program includes a $300-million increase in funding over two years.

With the increased grant levels and the Home Renovation Tax Credit now might be the right time to start looking at that project you put on the back burner, or to look at that new project you've been thinking about.

You have 18 months or until March 31, 2011, (whichever comes first) from the date you receive your pre-retrofit energy audit evaluation report to complete the post-retrofit evaluation in order to receive a grant (subject to available funding).

As a result of these increases some common retrofits like a high efficiency furnace (0.92% AFUE, with DC Motor) is now eligible for a rebate of $625 (up from $500).  An earth-energy system (ground or water source) grant has increased from $3,500 to $4,375.  Install a Solar Domestic Hot Water system that meets the new grant guidelines and the grant level has increased from $500 to $1,250 (due to more specific system requirements).
