After two years of wet, cool and grey summer (2008 and 2009), senior climatologist David Phillips with Environment Canada has said that the region should be returning to seasonably hot, hazy, humid and dry days this June, July and August.

The official forecast doesn't come out until June 1st but indications at this time are that it will be a dry summer compared to the last 2 years.

"There's just two words: Warm and dry," said Phillips

If this is the case for summer 2010, now would be a good time to start thinking about how you are going to ensure you have enough water to keep your plants and gardens alive.  Each year in Southern Ontario starts out, in most areas, with some level of water restrictions.  With water levels already being reported as lower than normal this spring there is a good chance it won't be long before more serious water restrictions need to be implemented to ensure adequate water supply unless the amount of rainfall we receive changes soon.

Now would be a good time to start thinking about rainwater harvesting solutions that can help you to collect precious rainwater to allow you to continue to keep your gardens, flowers and shrubs/trees well irrigated if we do end up with a dry hot summer.
