Earth Day 2009 (April 22) is now less than one month away and approaching fast.
There are so many events all across Canada and Ontario that you and your family can participate in to learn more about the environment and show your support and commitment toward making a change for the better.
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day was first launched in the US in 1970 as an environmental awareness event and it is now celebrated as the birthdate of the environmental movement.
More than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in over 170 countries worldwide in organizing and hosting events and projects to address local environmental issues.
In Canada, Earth Day has started to grow into Earth Week and in some areas even Earth Month due to the large number of events and projects that are available and the inability to have them all on a single day. Some of the activities range from large public events, such as the Victoria's Earth Walk , Edmonton's Earth Day Festival at Hawrelak Park , and Oakville, Ontario's Waterways Clean-up to thousands of other events staged by schools, employee groups and community groups all across the country.
What Events are Occuring?
To find out more about local events in Ontario you can visit the Earth Day Canada website (www.earthday.ca).
Take a look, get involved, and start making little changes to help our environment everyday.
